About me

My work combines traditional craft and contemporary themes. I enjoy the blurring of boundaries between my art practices and I look for inspiration in everything. I find the choice of medium suggests its self once I start to pursue an idea.

Originally I trained as a fashion designer where I discovered an interest in tailoring and pattern cutting. Gained an MA in Illustration, a PGCE and  I am a trained upholsterer. My slightly diverse and eclectic background informs my work and often compels me to introduce an illustrated or clothed element to many of my pieces.

I have four main strands to my practice, the work I undertake to commission often for museums and galleries. The objects, furniture and homeware I design, make and remake for private customers or for sale through shops, galleries and pop up or open studios. My teaching, following 25 years as an FE Lecturer in art & design I now teach classes from my studio in Whitley Bay. I also run workshops with kids and adults in liaison with various public organisations and groups. I make art which I exhibit and sell which tends towards more personal themes.

I find it slightly tricky to find a title that fits what I do, perhaps Designer/maker suits best?
